Lookbook: The Best menswear of Jermyn Street

It is the season of frosty mornings, holiday rush and peaceful nights broken by endlessly clicking champagne glasses. The year is coming to an end and to make sure that you are waving goodbye to 2019 as your most dapper self, I have compiled a list of the best menswear from one of the finest sartorial destinations in the country, Jermyn Street. Think of it as the best sort of gift guide: one for yourself.

This is the Meynell Single-Breasted Jacket from New & Lingwood. A handsome piece cut in pure new wool, woven in Yorkshire, it’s sharp and not too fussy. Here styled with a mustard v-neck jumper knitted from super-soft lambswool and a pair of grey single pleat flannel trousers. The shirt is a bespoke commission from Turnbull & Asser made with a distinctive high collar.

When out the door, layer up with this double-breasted coat for a powerful silhouette of camel, burgundy and navy checks. In a handsome wool and cashmere cloth the overcoat features broad peak lapels, deep flap pockets and a half-belt at the back.

Traditionally, Cricket Jumpers are known to be a British summertime classic, but I see no harm in celebrating this elegant knitwear style during the colder months too. Here paired with the a double pleated trouser cut from a fine wool tartan fabric woven in Italy. To finish the look; a pair of Piccadilly penny loafers by Edward Green made in a sophisticated dark brown grain leather.

If true sartorial blood is running through your veins, why limit your peacocking hours to the daytime? Nothing beats a great set of pyjamas. This navy and white option from Budd Shirtmakers delivers reminiscent of lovey days in the South of France. The cotton & Tencel blend of this pair makes them fantastically soft and comfortable. Here worn with an elegant burgundy wool gown cut from “superfleece” wool supplied by British mill, W.Bill. The perfect garms for an evening at home relaxing in front of the crackling fireplace.

A true statement piece. This bespoke dinner shirt by Harvie & Hudson designed in collaboration with Catherine Hayward, Fashion Director of Esquire UK. With style cues taken from the house archives, it presents retro stripes, 60’s inspired ruffles and a true power collar. I dressed it down with a charcoal roll neck from John Smedley for a more casual appeal.

Striking yet elegant, this evening suit will be your best friend for the next cocktail party. It is cut from the finest Italian velvet with a beautiful palette of tonal stripes. Pair it with a cream shirt, a purple ascot and a loud handkerchief to make an impression. Edward Green’s Piccadilly loafers in dark antique calf completes the look.

Ready to challenge your inner 70s style hero? Part of Turnbull & Asser’s latest Silk Shirt Collection, this paisley print guarantees tuning heads on the dance floor. It is directly inspired by a found archive image of the Rolling Stones frontman, Sir Mick Jagger. It is here worn with a signature piece of English formalwear made by Benson & Clegg: the velvet smoking jacket. Cut from their own unique paper pattern and crafted from a luxurious cloth by Dormeuil, this is evening wear at its finest.

Yours sincerely, Mathias le Fèvre
